Three sophomores led by Stephanie Schoeneman paced the Army women's cross country team to a fifth-place finish at the Patriot League Championships on Saturday afternoon in Easton, Pa. Schoeneman earned second team All-Patriot League honors for her performance.
"I was really pleased with how well Steph ran today," said head coach Laura Kirchgraber. "All of our sophomores have really stepped up this year."
Schoeneman toured the rain-soaked course at Lafayette College in a time of 21:59 to finish in 12th-place and secure her first All-Conference honor.
Fellow sophomores Toni Oestmann and Ashley Morgan were the next Army finishers, crossing the line in 22nd-place (22:26) and 31st-place (22:43), respectively.
"Toni and Ashley stepping up like that really spells great things for the future," says Kirchgraber.
Junior Meghan Curran was the fourth Black Knight across the line in 34th-place with a time of 22:52 and was followed closely by senior Megan Howell in 35th-place in 22:53.
Sophomore Andrea Filozof was the sixth Army finisher (53rd, 23:21) and freshman Christina Rath was the seventh Black Knight finisher (35th, 23:41).
Bucknell and Navy tied for the team title with 58 total points with Colgate in third (67), American in fourth (114) and Army in fifth with 128 points. This marks the second consecutive year that the Black Knights have finished fifth in the league championships.
Army will continue to postseason on November 10 at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships in Boston.
